President's Message

Susan Jensen
President Roatan Women's Club
2008 / 2009

I am proud to be President of the Roatan Women's Club for the upcoming year. I would like to thank everyone for their support of RWC over the last year. It has enabled us to honour our committment to our past beneficiary and contribute to the improvement of health care on Roatan.Under the superb leadership of our past President I feel we now have a strong foundation in place for us to continue to contribute to the wellfare of women and children on Roatan.

The RWC beneficiary for this upcoming year has changed from the Safety Initiative due to the fact that they now have the necessary funds in place for their specific project. This ensures that Roatan is going to be a safer, more secure, place to live once the needs of the Police force are met. They will be building a new Police Station that will be able to accommodate more policemen who will then be able to serve the residents of Roatan in the appropriate manner as well as supplying them with necessary equipment. Congratulations to them and all on Roatan who have been instrumental in addressing this most urgent need. The RWC's new beneficiary for this year will be Cam O'Brien's education program, Partners in Education. This is another project we are very excited about realizing, as we all do, that education is so very important to a community and for the future of Roatan. If we can ensure that all the children are able to attend school and become educated we are ensuring the future for our children. Cam's project aims to set up E-Learning centres around the island which will be instrumental in providing support to the children as well as feeding their enthusiasm for learning. All children are eager to learn, and by providing them the place and the tools to do so they will thrive. This we are sure of.

I look forward to everything we have planned for this upcoming year and I anticipate a great turnout at our annual Casino Night in October, along with the May Pole event for the kids and families on the island. I hope we will continue to get your support to help us make RWC as successful this year as we were last year. It promises to be a fun and exciting year so join us in celebrating everything good about Roatan.

Our monthly Ladies Luncheon continues to draw the women from the island to enjoy the comaraderie of women and friends as well as networking within our business community. This is held on the last Friday of every month at a chosen location, rotating restaurants from the West End/Bay area to the French Harbour and East end of the island. This year we will be hosting a Guest Speaker every month so this promises to be exciting and informative. Please look under Meetings / Locations for the updated calendar and RSVP from the website.

Please do not hesitate to contact us regarding our events or volunteering your services to us. Thank you and looking forward to seeing you all.

Interview

Ollie Thompson
President
Roatan Women's Club
2007 / 2008

It is my honor and pleasure to be president of the Roatan Women's Club this year, my desire is for us to support local community projects because that was the purpose for founding Roatan Women's Club.

Our Goals this year is to begin a new era of voluntarism, to pursue our goals and supply the Little Friends Foundation with the medical supplies needed to supply French Harbour and Coxen Hole Clinic with the medical supplies to effectively impact the medical services and need in our community.  Our other goal is to build the Roatan Women's Clubhouse. I know we will be able to accomplish this with our new project. The sale of our raffle tickets for a NEW 2008 Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Ladies this will be an exciting year, with lots of fun and we’ll all look back at what accomplishments we have achieved with the unity and support of all of us. To accomplish the Roatan Woman’s Clubhouse, where we can meet but most importantly help build a safe haven for the abused women and children in our community, to look back and know we were all responsible in some way shape and form for accomplishing this, will be something we can all be proud of.

In 1999, a small group of bright, active women came together to pursue their interests in cultural, philanthropic and civil activities, to improve our Island and our communities through what was known as the Lady’s Luncheon. This year we intend to continue the tradition of our monthly luncheon but also focus our attention and efforts by supporting our community and donating all our funds raised to the “Little Friends Foundation”.

Our funds will be raised through our social events like Casino Night, The Christmas Extravaganza and The May Pole.

Thank you for your support and please save the dates for our activities and help make the Roatan Women’s Club a success this year.
