Things to Know When Choosing a Web Hosting Company

Monday, December 22, 2008 posted by admin 5:44 am

When you have a website, whether it’s for a blog, an informational website or an e-commerce website, choosing the right web hosting company is a crucial decision. After all, the web hosting company will be responsible for you having a presence on the Internet and making sure that your presence is dynamic and constant. There are some important things to consider when you are choosing a web hosting company that can help you decide on a provider.

When you are first looking at providers, you are probably looking at terms like shared servers and dedicated servers. Don’t let these confuse you, but it is important that you understand the difference between the two. A shared website server is generally the less expensive way of getting your website hosted. Shared servers are used by many users and host many websites, which cuts down on costs. This may be a wise move if you are putting up a web page for the first time and have a limited budget. If you choose shared hosting, you are not alone. It’s the most popular form of web hosting and scores of small businesses as well as individuals rely on shared hosting services for their websites. The server is maintained by the web host and there is very little to worry about on your end.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the dedicated server. This is the more expensive route to go but may be necessary if you have a large website or are conducting a lot of e-commerce or expect a lot of traffic to your site. Dedicated hosting features your website hosted on a separate server that is dedicated to your website and your website alone. It is the perfect solution if you are looking for the most reliability and flexibility in a web hosting plan. With a dedicated server, you are in control of the options and features of your website, so you can tailor make your website to fit your needs. When you have a dedicated server, you also have a higher level of security than with a shared server. This is important especially if you are running an e-commerce operation.

When you are choosing a web hosting company, it’s also important to see what other services they offer, including domain name registration. Many web hosting companies can offer you a complete turnkey solution, where they will design, build and host your website for a fee. It’s important to consider what level of service you are going to need from a web hosting company before you select one for your website.

How to Choose a Business Web Hosting Company

Sunday, December 21, 2008 posted by admin 10:18 am

So you are finally opening your own home business, congratulations! Having an online presence is important to any home business, and finding the right company to host your online business website can mean the difference between success and failure.

Online web hosting basically boils down to two categories personal use, and business web hosting. Each category then can be broken down into smaller sub categories, such as paid or free personal sites, and different levels of business Web hosting where different options are offered depending on the monthly cost. The key difference between the two of these hosting packages besides features is that many Web companies will not let you conduct business using a personal web hosting account. This is both for your benefit, and the web hosting company’s benefit. Personal websites generally are not stored on the same servers, and thus do not have the same levels of data security, backup, and redundancy. Personal use website hosts also generally cap the amount of data throughput that can be used in any given month.

Because companies that offer business web hosting put your data on special servers it usually costs a little bit more depending on the amount of data you plan on storing, and the amount of traffic you anticipate generating. Business web hosting packages also offer a larger feature set then available with personal web hosting packages. Most business web packages offer more database tables, enhanced CGI support, and even more specialized tasks such as running Cron jobs.

Depending on your host when you use a business package will also be assured some level of customer support. Website service providers are notoriously bad at customer service; often times customers are left waiting for days at a time before a customer service representative gets back to them. With a business to web host the company usually spells out in exacting detail what level of customer service the client can expect. This can include anything from guaranteed live phone support, to technical support available through chat dialogue using their online help messaging system. Even if support is only available through e-mail it is generally quicker than what someone would otherwise experience using a personal web hosting plan.

When choosing a business web hosting service consult the Internet for customer reviews of the various companies and the packages that they offer. It is often easy to see trends of customer satisfaction, and thus find a package that fits your needs. Not all companies live up to their advertisement claims so it is definitely importance to do your research ahead of time.

Because this is a web host for your business cost cannot be your sole point of analysis. You will end up paying more for increased feature sets, however these features are important for maintaining a reliable presence online. Try to find the right balance between cost, customer satisfaction, and necessary features such as database tables in CGI scripts. Once you find this balance, and you have spoken to their representatives asking any questions you may have sign up and enjoy your new business web host.

Webhosting Tips to Select the Right Web Hosting Provider for yourself

Thursday, December 18, 2008 posted by admin 4:11 pm

While choosing ones Web hosting provider one has to confront with thousands of companies, tens of thousands of different plans as out of these thousands of companies and plans only few are suitable for the website and online needs.

In today’s world Webhosting has become a part of the informational revolution brought by the Internet and it has become compulsory for both business and also individuals.

Here we are just going to point on few things related to choosing an adequate web host for a web site as there is no need explaining why a website is a must on World Wide Web. This business might seem very complicated but once one knows what to look for it is easy to find out. Stick to ones requirements after analyzing it properly.

Many inexperienced web owners often buy more than required while evaluating their needs in terms of space and bandwidth. Thus many web-hosting providers size their web servers taking this into account as this is exceptionally common and in fact over sell the space and bandwidth assuming that customers will never make full use of it.

Ask ones web host provider per server ration to avoid web hosts that result to just that or crowed their web servers to get an extra profit per customer. To become a clever buyer one should do this with all the other companies one finds interesting to do business with and are eligible to host web site. Never buy a web-hosting plan that fits just perfectly instead always leave some space as website is like a living creature which always grows so buy a little extra space so that when website is expanded one have resources available. Always leave margin for error too as supposing the initial bandwidth evaluation proves itself insufficient then one might not be able to use its website because of exceeded bandwidth. For both knowledgeable and less knowledgeable web owners most web hosting plans come packed with features and some even offer pre-installed scripts and programs that might come handy.

Do not forget things actually required like the OS (Operating System) or the PHP support, as one could consider any extra feature a plus. Do not allow the provider to tell something not required or is less than expected so one should decide of its own what is needed.

Importance of Support: – One might overlook Support facility when one finds an offer which is suitable both in terms of space, bandwidth and has all other facilities which one needs but remember all the good features will go in vein if one does not have good support. If the web-hosting provider is too careless then any technical problem, which arises, will take long hours to be solved even after making many support help calls thus curtailing the work.

If one wants to test the quality and how responsive the support personnel is then one should fire many pre-sales questions through email. Check if the response fact is enough. Now supposing that a conference has to be attended and the site is down and many clicks are expected, check if the website is online to get them and also whether the response one is getting from the support is thorough or is just scratching the surface and is the response understandable.

Look for these qualities when looking for good support: -

-Online support staff, help desk, message boards etc.

-Try to find on forums or discussion boards Information on the reputation of a web-

hosting provider.

-Would one like to be among one those discontented customers there?

Another aspect of the problem is reliability. Company’s web server’s uptime should be asked. Usually 99.9% of uptime is guaranteed by Most of the hosts, as 100% is not a realistic figure in the computer world. This guarantee means that, the money will be refunded for that month or free webhosting will be given for a month as compensation for web site being unavailable if the web site was not available 99.9% of the time.

Our sincere advice to everyone looking for web host provider is don’t try too hard to find the cheapest possible web host though it is true that one has to pay for paid web hosting. Still if one goes for cheaper one then within two weeks from the date of purchase one will stumble upon a better deal and thus will most likely end-up wasting an incredible amount of time. On the other hand paying extra amount to get what one could have got for less is also not a good deal. Getting 200 MB of space with 2 GB of bandwidth for $60 one is getting cheated and at the same time getting same service for $6 or $10 can be a good deal. A thin line between Nightmare of getting slow server response, unreachable support and irritating server downtime and Profitable and enjoyable web presence is drawn by individuals’ themselves.

So we conclude saying one should always choose ones web-hosting provider vigilantly who can live up the promises and can deliver good quality web hosting!

What is Web Hosting?

Website or web hosting, is a service that allows you to have your very own website. How does it work? Well, you sign up with a web hosting provider and they allocate disk space among other resources,  for you on a high-capacity computer, more commonly known as a web server. Hence the name, the web host’s server serves your website pages on the web, making them accessible to internet users throughout the world. Nearly every site on the web is being powered by one web hosting company or another.

Types of Web Hosting

There are many different types of web hosting available, each of which are geared towards businesses, webmasters and developers at varying levels. Some of the most popular types of web hosting including the following:

Shared Hosting

The most common type of web hosting, shared hosting describes a situation where you are literally sharing server space and various resources with other website owners.  Simplicity and cost-efficiency has made this arrangement quite popular among individuals and small businesses.

Dedicated Hosting

More commonly termed as a dedicated server, dedicated web hosting refers to a situation where you have an entire server dedicated to your website or business. Server space and all resources are made exclusive to you, providing the utmost in control and flexibility.

Managed Hosting

Managed hosting generally refers to the full managing and servicing of a dedicated server.  This may include server administration and database management among other services.

Reseller Hosting

Reseller hosting is a situation where you purchase server space and associated resources from a web hosting provider and then sell it to your own customers. A reseller essentially acts a middleman between the customer and the web hosting company.

As you can see, web hosting comes in a variety flavors and these are just a few of many. Narrowing them down and finding one that suits your needs isn’t always easy but one thing is for certain – with all the providers currently on the market, there is sure to be a host capable of meeting your needs.

Cheap Web Hosting Plans

Thursday, December 11, 2008 posted by admin 4:51 pm

Are you looking for a reliable web hosting company to get your website online? If so, first take a look at some important features which must be considered when choosing your web hosting company:

Reliability and uptime: Hosting uptime refers to the percentage of time the host is accessible via the internet. It is very important your service be uptime (functioning and available for use). It means you can access your account whenever you want to update your web pages, and users can enter your website whenever they refer to your site address. If your hosting service is not uptime it can be catastrophic!

Disk space: Web hosting space is the amount of room that the web host provides to store your HTML, graphic, video/audio and other files. This figure is most commonly stated in gigabytes. If you don’t know how much space you need for your website, you can choose a web host with unlimited disk space, which allows you to build as many web pages as you want.

Bandwidth: Bandwidth (or data transfer) refers to the amount of data that is accessed by your visitors. Web hosts define bandwidth as the total amount of data access from your server over a month’s time. This figure is most commonly expressed in gigabytes. If you don’t know how much bandwidth you need for your website, you can pick a web host with unlimited data transfer, which allows you to support as many visitors as you want.

Ease of Control Panel: It is important that the control panel is easy to use and all information can be accessed easily.

Choosing a New Hosting Plan

Saturday, December 6, 2008 posted by admin 12:42 pm

Now that you are ready to build a new website or blog, your next step is to find yourself a web hosting company that suits the needs of your project. When you start searching for a new web hosting provider you should review all aspects of their web hosting plans carefully. Here are a few of the most important things to consider when selecting a web hosting plan:

Pricing: Web hosting does not need to be very expensive thanks to an extremely competitive industry. Although pricing should not always be the main concern when choosing a web hosting plan, there are some affordable hosting options available for just a few dollars per month and these can be a good entry point for a new site.

Scalability: Once your web site begins to gain popularity you may need to consider upgrading your hosting plan to a more powerful one. This is why it’s a good idea to choose a web host who offers an upgrade path form basic hosting all the way up to VPS or even dedicated plans. your host should be able to upgrade your hosting plan quickly and without any down-time.

Reliability: The reliability of your new web hostin plan is extremely important since this may effect the availability of your website due to potential server down-time. If the web host you select is always down or the connections are slow then it can impact your business and profits. Review the up-time percentage record the web host has listed on their website. You may also find that some web hosts provide you with an up-time tracker so you can monitor the up-time of their servers.

Customer service and support: You should ensure that the web hosting provider you decide to go with is easily accessible via email, live chat or telephone, preferably 24 hours a day. Some web hosts will advertise this on their site, but unfortunatly some will not always honor it. Before committing to any web host, it’s a good idea to send a test email or two to their support staff to ensure they respond quickly and helpfully to your inquiry. Another good test is to call them outside normal business hours to see if someone is available to answer your query. This can give you a good indication of what service level you can expect should you decide to host with the company.

Hosting plan features: When selecting a new web host, always review the features they offer on their site thoroughly. You should not assume that the web host provides all the features you are looking for. Go through their features list in detail and if there is a particular feature you require, and it’s not listed, then send a support query to see if this feature can be made available.

In summary the key to selecting a web hosting company is to always do the necessary research so you will making an informed decision, and ensure the company offers all of the features you need at the right price.

Who is the Best Affordable Web Hosting Company and Why?

Thursday, December 4, 2008 posted by admin 12:24 pm

Who is the best affordable web hosting company? The web hosting industry has grown over the years and with all the competition in the industry finding out who is the best web hosting service is very difficult and definitely a task. I would like to share with you my experience in the web hosting world. Over the past 2 years it has been my job to find the best web hosting providers in the industry today.

My first experience with a web hosting company was yahoo small business. Yahoo is great for beginners because there editing software is very user friendly. They offer a 3 step web site building software for simple content sites, which is good for small business. Or if you are like me and have to edit and insert html coding there second option is for you. There html editor is very user friendly. The Yahoo editor is were I personally learn how to build my first web site. So I highly recommend it for beginners. But yahoo is not the top web hosting provider on my list because there reviews and features are not that great. The main reason why i”am not with yahoo anymore is because you can host only one domain per account. (Which means you can only host one web site per account). There monthly fee is around $11.95 / month which is pretty high in my affordable web hosting category. And second I have read a lot of reviews that there uptime and support is not that great which is a big negative in my book.

Now moving on to my second experience with a hosting company. blue host there is not much I have to say about blue host except they are top notch. I have been with blue host for around a year now and no problems yet. I have never had to wait more than a couple minutes for a support question, there uptime is great there feature are great, Plus blue host has received multiple awards for support and reliability. And there reviews are good. That is why i”am still with them today.

Host monster and blue host are joined companies Which means that they are pretty much the same company, just advertised different. The only benefit in choosing hostmonster over blue host is they are cheaper. When my contract is up I will probably go with hostmonster. Startlogic is also a top notch company. I have talked to numerous customers and web masters that love ever aspect of the company. iX web hosting is a good provider that has an anytime money back guarantee. What else could you ask for.

We understand that it is not easy to just go and find the best host service out there. There are literally thousands of hosting companies on the market today. We have taken the time and put the effort into finding the best  affordable web hosting services. We are careful to recommend only the most reputable web hosting companies. Having the Best Web Hosting Plan

Wednesday, December 3, 2008 posted by admin 8:41 am

If and when you’re interested in starting a business online, there are a lot of things that you have to study first before you can rightfully expect a high ROI or return on investment.

First, you have to make sure that your company website has a user friendly interface which basically means links are visible, easily located and properly labeled and that the content provided in the website is complete, interesting, effective and grammatically correct.

Secondly, there’s the little matter of search engine optimization or SEO which requires you to employ a number of strategies that your company website is heard and seen by the right people. Common search engine optimization strategies would be keyword listing, site code optimization and top search engine placement.

And of course, we finally come to the main theme of our article: web hosting. No matter how great your website looks or how effective your SEO strategies are, if you don’t have the right web hosting plan, none of those would see the light of the day because your web hosting plan simply prevents them from being properly uploaded and viewed.

Web hosting is integral to your plans if you want your website to have its own niche in the Internet so do read carefully what we’re about to teach you.

You have mainly two choices when it comes to web hosting – you can get it for free or you can spend for it. Naturally, it would be lovely if web hosting would be free for all of us but understand that all the needs of your company website must be met by the free web hosting plan if you want your future to look rosy.

In order to determine whether your company website could do well even with a free web hosting plan, here are some key issues to address.

Are you willing to put up advertisements that may take too much space or would have an irritable effect on your readers? These ads are often required by free web hosting plans because it’s the only reason they can continue letting people enjoy free web hosting.

Are you okay with low bandwidth access and minimal web space? Because of these constrictions, you may not be able to create a website that’s exactly to your liking.

Are you capable of some basic software troubleshooting? Most free web hosting plans do not offer any free live customer support so you might be forced to solve a problem or two on your own when something wrong happens.

If you’re not ready for the situations enumerated above then perhaps its better that you go for a post paid web hosting plan so that all your worries would be over.

If you are in the market for a web hosting company and have decided to go with a shared web hosting plan, you are certainly not alone. Millions of people and businesses choose to have their websites hosted by a shared server. For one thing, you will find it the most affordable option in terms of price. Also, if you are not technically inclined, having a shared web hosting plan can spare you a lot of the hassle of maintenance and upkeep. A good web hosting company will provide you with the expertise that you need to keep your website up and running so you can get on with producing content, or marketing your online business or writing for your blog, whatever your website is all about. A shared web hosting plan frees up your time so you can concentrate on the core business at hand, not maintaining servers and checking for functionality.

Shared web hosting plans are so popular mainly because they are so affordable. You can find plans that fall under $20, which is really affordable in terms of getting a website hosted on the Internet. Shared web hosting is the least expensive option for web hosting that is available because you are sharing a server with other people’s websites. What’s good about shared web hosting plans are if your website does not require a lot of space and bandwidth, this is the best route to go in terms of affordability.

Another advantage to having a shared web hosting plan is that the maintenance and upkeep of the server is handled by the web host. You do not have to have any prior knowledge of server maintenance to get a shared web hosting plan up and running. The host company takes care of all the server maintenance and sets up your website with the features and options you selected when you chose your plan.

Shared web hosting plans are usually flexible and allow you to expand your capabilities once your website grows. Web hosting companies usually make it easy for you to upgrade your plan if you need more storage space or bandwidth as your online business takes off and you get more traffic to your website. You also have access to the web host’s technical expertise so if there are any issues, the web host will fix them. You don’t have to worry about not having special technical expertise. The web host will provide all the technical support you need to keep your website up and running.
